Oxygen is not flammable, but it supports and accelerates combustion. Oil, grease, fibres and manufacturing residues can contribute to ignition hazards in equipment exposed to oxygen. Gas meeting the PSA generator's purity requirement does not automatically qualify its receiver, booster, valves or distribution piping for oxygen service.
Compatibility depends on oxygen concentration, operating pressure and temperature, flow conditions and component design. Specifying stainless steel does not approve every operating condition. Seals, valve seats, sealants and any lubricant also require assessment. A standard spare part with matching dimensions cannot automatically replace an oxygen-approved component.
Define the cleaning scope and acceptance criteria when ordering. The method must suit the contaminants and every wetted material. Post-cleaning inspection, drying and packaging against recontamination belong to the same process. A shiny appearance or UV inspection alone cannot demonstrate removal of every residue; choose verification methods for the contaminants expected.
Keep component identification, design conditions, the manufacturer's oxygen-service suitability information, the cleaning procedure, inspection results and delivery protection traceable. Reassess sections opened or replaced during maintenance. Cleaning and recommissioning require competent personnel and an approved equipment-specific procedure; this article is not a solvent or field-cleaning recipe.
